Odyssey House Louisiana (OHL) is a nonprofit behavioral health care provider with an emphasis on addiction treatment. OHL was established in 1973 as a nonprofit residential substance abuse treatment facility with the mission of empowering people to conquer addiction. Today, Odyssey House offers a professional, structured and caring Therapeutic Community with comprehensive services and effective support systems that enable individuals to chart new lives and return to their communities as contributing members.

Detox Program

OHL offers medically supported detox services available to individuals suffering from addiction. OHL’s Medically Supported Detox is now accepting clients and referrals for its program, which is funded through the Louisiana Office for Addictive Disorders.

OHL's Medically Supported Detox Facility has 20 beds available for individuals who cannot afford private detox and rehab, but who do not need the high level of care of University Hospital's Medical Detox Center. The Medically Supported Detox utilizes basic oral medications to ameliorate symptoms of withdrawal. OHL’s Medically Supported Detox Facility is appropriate for people who have abused all types of substances, including IV drugs, opiates, alcohol and prescribed medications. Detox treatment typically lasts 4 – 7 days. The program is not a Suboxone facility at this time.

As the OHL Medically Supported Detox is affiliated with OHL's substance abuse treatment programs, the motivated client can easily transition to a long-term residential program or be referred to intensive or supportive outpatient services based on their individual needs. The client must meet admission criteria, including basic medical and psychiatric stability, and must have a 30-day supply of all prescribed medications upon admittance into the residential program.

The Medically Supported Detox program is currently located at 1125 North Tonti Street. The program accepts admissions seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and by appointment.
