OHL Holds Ribbon Cutting For Renovated Medical Clinic

August 3

Clinic renovations made possible through $100,000 Humana Louisiana Benefits grant.

Odyssey House Louisiana, Inc. (OHL) held a ribbon- cutting ceremony for its renovated free community medical clinic Friday, July 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at 1125 North Tonti Street. OHL was able to upgrade the medical clinic’s facilities thanks to a one-time, $100,000 grant from Humana’s Louisiana Benefits charitable giving program. This grant, awarded to OHL by the health benefits company last fall, allowed OHL to update the clinic space and create efficiencies in the clinic’s layout and design.

“We see the long-term sustainability of our clinic as critical to the low-income and special needs populations in New Orleans,” says OHL Chief Executive Officer Edward Carlson. “We are extremely grateful that Humana’s Louisiana Benefits program has allowed us make improvements to our clinic space that will allow us to provide a higher quality of service to the people who need it most.”

“Our goal with Louisiana Benefits is to have a meaningful impact on the quality of life for the people who live and work in our state,” said Humana Louisiana Commercial Market President Jamie Schlottman, “and Odyssey House is certainly delivering on that objective by providing free health care to those in greatest need in our community.

OHL’s medical clinic opened after Hurricane Katrina to help meet the immediate physical and mental healthcare needs of the surrounding neighborhood.  In 2008, the clinic served over 1,200 patients. 80% of OHL clinic patients are uninsured.
