
Odyssey House Louisiana (OHL) is a nonprofit behavioral health care provider with an emphasis on addiction treatment. OHL was established in 1973 as a nonprofit residential substance abuse treatment facility with the mission of empowering people to conquer addiction. Today, Odyssey House offers a professional, structured and caring Therapeutic Community with comprehensive services and effective support systems that enable individuals to chart new lives and return to their communities as contributing members.

THE FOLLOWING LIST CONTAINS THINGS YOU CAN BRING WITH YOU ON YOUR DATE OF ADMISSION:
State I.D. or driver's license
Medical Insurance documents
Stamps, envelopes, paper, and pens
Cigarettes (smokers only), bring enough cigarettes for ONE month
Enough clothing for ONE week, which includes no more than 7 shirts, 7 t-shirts, and 7 pants
Shoes (dress shoes, work shoes, sneakers, and/or sandals) NO MORE than 4 pairs.
Shower shoes (1 pair)
Soap and Shampoo ( 30 day supply)
Shaving Cream and razors (30 day supply)
Socks and underclothes (7 each)
Deodorant (30 day supply)
Shaving bag/box (1)
Wedding band
Towels and face cloths (2 each)
Comb and/or brush (1 each)
ONE piece of religious jewelry
Nail clipers and tweezers (1 each)
Dental floss (one pack)

Medications (30 day supply)

Laundry detergent (liquid High Efficient (HE) only); clients do thier own laundry once a week

ONE soft-sided duffle bag or trash bag- NO suitcases
Hygiene Items: MUST BE NEW AND UNOPENED. No products containing alcohol will be accepted. This includes, but is not limited to mouthwash, cologne, body sprays, and body cleansing products.

You are strongly encouraged not to bring expensive item into the facility.
Note: Odyssey House will not be liable or responsible for storing any personal items. Therefore, any items that are brought to the facility at the time of intake that are not listed or exceed the listed amount WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. You will be asked to have someone pick them up or dispose of them before completing the intake process. If you are not able to have the items removed, your intake process will be rescheduled.
Clients are not allowed to carry any money on their person; however, they may bring a Wal-Mart gift card with up to $100.00 (per month) which can be used to purchase medicines, cigarettes, personal items and toiletries. The House goes to Wal-Mart once a month.
Phone usage is limited the first couple of months of treatment. Writing letters is recommended. If an emergency arises, the case manger should be notified.
Families can send toiletries, clothing, and cigarettes through the mail as well as drop them off on SUNDAYS between the hours of 10:00 am and 8:00 pm.
